Growing plants is the most calm and relaxing thing that you can do, even if you do this for business, right? Well, I thought the same 8 years ago.   

In this article, I want you to know me closer, and to share with you the rollercoaster journey that led me to where I am today, growing and shipping seeds to over 40 countries worldwide. 🚀

🌿 A Seed of Inspiration: From Party Chats to Business Plans 🌱

Back in 2015, I found myself at a party, chatting with an old high school friend. She mentioned that she had to import microgreens all the way from Israel for her cooking workshops in Poland. Crazy right?🌿 That got my entrepreneurial wheels turning, and I thought, "Hey, this could be a great business opportunity!".

 So the very next day, I dove headfirst into researching the technicalities of microgreens production, watching the youtube videos till 2 after midnight, and ordering a book “Seed production”. There was almost nothing there, but anyway two days later, I placed my first order for seeds and growing supplies. 🌱

 

💡 A Humble Beginning: From Mom's Back Room to Urban Farming 🌿

With the help of my trusty father and the unused back room of my mother's shop, I set up my very own urban farm. It wasn't the most glamorous location, but hey, you've got to start somewhere, right? Soon enough, I started selling my homegrown microgreens to local restaurants, and business was maybe not booming but growing step by step for sure. 💥

 

☀️ No Vacations, Just Green Adventures: Tending to Microgreens 🏖️

Now, I must confess, being a microgreens farmer isn't exactly a job that allows for extended vacations. Plants are like pets—they need constant care and attention. So while others were jetting off to tropical destinations, I was busy tending to my leafy green buddies. 🌿🏖️

 

😱 Pandemic Plot Twist: When COVID-19 Struck 🎉

Just when everything seemed to be falling perfectly into place, fate had a different plan. Enter COVID-19, the uninvited guest that crashed our party. 🎉 The pandemic hit hard, and with restaurants closing their doors and restrictions in place, our orders took a nosedive. I left with the seeds, and room of ready microgreens. It felt like we were standing in a field of wilted dreams. 😔

 

🍋 Making Lemonade: Expanding Online and Shipping abroad 🌍

But you know what they say—when life gives you a pandemic, make the best damn lemonade you can! 🍋💪 I thought, maybe there were more folks across Europe looking to start their own urban farms during these challenging times. So, I rolled up my sleeves, developed an online shop, still grew some microgreens, and even had a full-on photoshoot to show what comes from our seeds. 📸

 

🌍 2020-2025: Going Global While Staying Personal 🌱

And guess what? It worked! Today, MP SEEDS team ships our precious seeds to green-thumbed enthusiasts in approximately 40 countries 🌍 We're constantly introducing new language versions of our website - we now have German and Italian versions, with more languages planned for the future.

However, let me make one thing clear: we're not aiming to be a massive corporation. No, sir! We take pride in being a small company because it allows us to maintain quality control and ensure that every order and batch of seeds meets our high standards. Despite our international expansion, we still personally take all photos and test samples ourselves, maintaining our commitment to quality for every single batch of seeds. 👨‍🌾

Our mission is to educate people about microgreens because we believe that anyone can become a grower. That's why we create our blog, run our YouTube channel, send out newsletters, and actively manage our social media accounts. Even though the market has changed significantly since we started and microgreens are becoming more popular, we want to develop this even further.

🔄 What's Changed (And What Hasn't) - 10 Years Later

Looking back at this incredible journey - my 10 years with microgreens since 2015, and now celebrating MP SEEDS' 5th birthday - I'm amazed by how much the microgreens world has transformed, yet some things remain beautifully constant.

What's Changed: A Market Revolution 📈

The transformation has been mind-blowing! When I started in 2015, microgreens were practically unknown outside of high-end restaurants. Now, you can actually find them in supermarkets and they're becoming much more common in wholesale markets. It's fascinating though - while you can find sprouts in almost every store, microgreens are still a specialty item in regular retail. The awareness and demand have grown tremendously, but there's still so much room for education and growth. What Hasn't Changed

Some things never change, and honestly, I'm glad they don't! My house is still constantly filled with trays and samples scattered everywhere - that hasn't changed since day one. It's part of who I am! I'm still experimenting, still growing at home, and still get excited about every new variety.

My favorite microgreen remains the same: pea shoots. They're simple, reliable, and absolutely delicious. On the flip side, sorrel and red shiso are still the most challenging varieties - even for me after all these years! Some things just keep you humble in this business.

From Student to Teacher

Here's something that's come full circle: I learned everything from zero back in 2015. I wasn't particularly interested in gardening before this adventure began - YouTube was literally my university. I spent countless hours watching videos, conducting my own experiments, trying different combinations and methods. The beauty of microgreens is that they have a short growing cycle, so you can experiment endlessly, and the barrier to entry is refreshingly low.
