Description

General Information about Ebb & Flow Hydroponic Tray 120×270cm

The Ebb & Flow Hydroponic Tray 120 × 270 cm is designed for growers who need extra-large, reliable surfaces for hydroponics or microgreens farming. This professional tray is made from 3 mm thick, UV-stabilized virgin plastic, providing long-lasting resistance to intensive light exposure, irrigation cycles, and heavy daily use.

With its integrated gutters and central drainage zone, the tray guarantees controlled water flow and safe removal of excess solution. Unlike smaller one-piece trays, this model is delivered in two sections (240 cm + 30 cm), which must be glued together before use. Once assembled, it forms a seamless growing platform that fits perfectly on large racks or custom-built hydroponic tables.

  • Delivered in two parts (240 cm and 30 cm) requiring assembly with special glue.
  • Includes a filter (sieve) and irrigation connector to simplify setup.
  • Specially marked spot on one side indicate where holes can be drilled for water supply and drainage. The holes are not pre-drilled and should be customized according to the grower’s system. For clean results, a plastic drill bit is recommended.

Technical Parameters:

  • Total tray length: 270 cm
  • Total tray width: 120 cm
  • Total tray height: 7,5 cm
  • Inner height (after subtracting square supports): 5,6 cm
  • Drainage connection area: 6 × 18 cm
  • Height of element protruding below the base: 4 cm

How to Use EBB and Flow Hydroponic Tray 120x270cm?

Assembly (Gluing Process):

Because of its large size, the tray is shipped in two pieces. To prepare it for use, the sections must be carefully joined with adhesive:

  • Place both pieces on a completely level surface. The glued joint area is slightly lower than the tray sides (where the water outlets are located), so it is important to place some supporting material underneath. This ensures that the joint is perfectly aligned and at the same level as the rest of the tray.
  • Apply a special glue for plastic sparingly at the joint. Too much glue may damage the tray.
  • Press the sections firmly together and smooth the joint with a putty knife, removing any excess.
  • Allow the glued tray to dry for at least 24 hours (ideally 48–72 hours at a constant 20 °C) before use.
  • Always use safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, and a mask during gluing.

Ebb & Flow System

Once assembled, the tray can be integrated into an Ebb & Flow setup. Connected through a lead-through and tap to a pump, the tray is regularly flooded with nutrient solution. When the pump switches off, the solution flows back (ebb), creating a natural oxygen exchange in the growing medium. This cycle stimulates strong root development, as oxygen is pushed out during flooding and drawn back in as the water recedes. Overflows prevent flooding, while a circulating pump keeps the solution mixed and oxygenated. The recommended water height is max. 1 cm to irrigate roots without soaking the seeds.

Drip Irrigation System

The tray can also be used with drip irrigation. In this method, a water supply line with drippers is placed above the tray to deliver the nutrient solution directly to the plants. Excess water drains through a single lead-through, keeping the setup simple and effective for pots or containers placed on the tray.

Manual Watering System

Another option is to use the tray without holes as a manual watering system. Water or nutrient solution is poured directly into the tray, evenly irrigating all plants at once. This method saves time and effort in smaller or experimental setups while ensuring consistent hydration. The recommended water height is max. 1 cm to irrigate roots without soaking the seeds.
